Encountering issues with Tube2Sheets? Here are some common problems users face and their solutions.

Common Issues

1. Cannot find 'Tube2Sheet' in 'Extension' menu or cannot open the Add-on
2. My spreadsheet is suddenly empty with a message about API data deletion

1. Cannot find 'Tube2Sheet' in 'Extension' menu or cannot open the Add-on

Issue: After installing Tube2Sheet, I cannot find it in the 'Extensions' menu of Google Sheets, or I'm unable to open the Add-on.

Solution: This issue can usually be resolved by creating a new spreadsheet or checking your browser extensions. Follow these steps:

1. Create a new spreadsheet:

   • Click 'File' -> 'New' -> 'Spreadsheet'
   • Check if Tube2Sheet appears in the 'Extensions' menu of the new spreadsheet

2. If step 1 doesn't work, try the following:

   • Temporarily disable your browser extensions
   • Or, open Google Sheets in an incognito/private browsing window

3. If the problem persists:

   • Ensure you're signed in with the same Google account you used to install the Add-on
   • Try refreshing the page or restarting your browser
   • Check if your organization's Google Workspace settings allow Add-ons

2. Empty spreadsheet with API data deletion message

Issue: My spreadsheet is suddenly empty, and the first cell says: 'API data has been deleted from your spreadsheet to comply with YouTube policies. Please run the request again manually.'

Solution: To comply with YouTube Data API policies, we are required to refresh or delete authorized data after 30 days. Tube2Sheets attempts to refresh data automatically 30 days after the last request. If this fails due to disabled scheduling or exhausted quota, the sheet contents are deleted.

To resolve this:

1. Run the request manually to fetch updated data.
2. Enable scheduling if you want automatic updates.

"API Clients may store all types of Authorized Data, except those specified in section (III.E.4.b), only as long as necessary for the specific consent granted by an active user and for no more than 30 calendar days. After this period, the API Client must either delete or refresh the stored data." (Source)

"API Clients must not (i) replace API Data with similar, independently calculated data, or (ii) use API Data to create new or derived data or metrics." (Source)

3. Successful request but empty sheet

Issue: Tube2Sheets states that my request has run successfully, however the sheet remains empty.

Solution: This issue may occur due to specific settings in the 'Parameters' section of your request. To troubleshoot:

1. Gradually remove settings that might filter the API results.
2. Run the request again after each change.
3. Create a new request using the Query standard preset for parameters to identify which setting is causing empty data.
4. If you believe a certain configuration should return data, contact customer support for further analysis.

4. The 'Description' for videos seems to be cut off after the first line

Issue: The data returned in the 'Description' column is truncuated after the first line or roughly 160 characters.

Solution: You will encounter this issue when using the Content by keyword(s) query. Tube2Sheet returns the data it received from the YouTube Data API without further modification. You can replicate this issue when searching for content on the YouTube website using the search bar where the description is also shortened. A workaround is to first search for videos and then take the Video IDs and make another data request with the Video(s) by Video ID(s) to download the full descriptions.

1. Run a 'Content by keyword(s)' data request.
2. Copy the Video IDs.
3. Run a 'Video(s) by Video ID(s)' data request.
