YouTube Data API Queries

This section provides detailed instructions for fetching data from the YouTube Analytics API with Tube2Sheet.

Particulary useful metrics are:

  • Top videos of your channel
  • Views resulting from different advertisement types / related videos
  • Top search terms that lead viewers to a specific video
  • Gender and age demographics
  • Likes/Dislikes
  • Subscribers gained from videos

While the YouTube Data API provides a data snapshot (like current views of a video of the number of subscribers of a channel), the YouTube Analytics API can be used to query historic data (i.e. data over a time period, like views or subscribers gained per day or month).

The main difference to the Data API is that the Analytics API is used to get data for you own channel. This is data that only you can access. The data that you can access with this API is technically the same data that you can access in YouTube Studio.

Tube2Sheet will help you to automate the data retrieval so you can use it in your data pipeline or automatically update your reports.

You can also connect to your automatically updated data with visualization tools like Microsoft Power BI or Excel.
